Things To Do While Visiting Leland

Leland, MI is an excellent destination to get away on vacation or for the weekend and experience its numerous attractions and outdoor activities in a scenic natural environment. The city, rather a village; offers exceptional fun activities for young and old that range from camping, hiking, skiing, biking and boating on its wonderful trails, beaches and lakes. You can begin your tour by learning about the area by a simply heading downtown and stopping any of the oh-so friendly locals. You may be a "fudgee" but they will still love you anyways.  Other interesting things to do in your visit include shopping in Leland’s historic FishTown and dinning in the welcoming cafes and restaurants that offer stunning waterfront views.

  Experience Michigan’s fishing heritage in Leland’s Fishtown [embed]https://www.flickr.com/photos/97867906@N00/4511790315/[/embed]  Fishtown is Leland’s historical district dating back to early 1800’s and is also the pride of North Michigan’s commercial fishing industry. A walk around the town will make you discover why the town is historic. This village is uniquely beautiful and has renovated buildings from the past century while other new ones are interspersed with the old ones from as early as 1850’s. The town also has numerous rustic shanties that house many shops and eateries like the historic boat house, now the Riverside Inn. The Leland River is stunning to watch and flows from Lake Leelanau to Lake Michigan. Lake Leland and Lake Michigan offer various water sports for residents and visitors alike. You will enjoy watching the stunning gardens and flowers as you walk through the town. Fishtown has numerous waterfront eateries to sample smoked fish and other delicacies. In 2010, Chateau Fontaine’s Gewürztraminer was chosen as the Best Pacific Rim White Wine. The farm also won the John Rose Award for the dry and semi-sweet White Rieslings in 2012 and 2013 at the Finger Lakes International Competition. The farm offers great wine tasting experience in the wine tasting room for seasoned and new visitors. You can look forward to tasting a variety of wines from the farm’s best fruits. Such include Dry Rose’, Viognier and Pinot Blanc. Other award-winning varieties from Chateau Fontaine include Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Rieslings. If you are visiting in a group of more than 10 people, you will need to book for an appointment. Meet sea and land by visiting Manitou Islands North and South Manitou Islands are located in Lake Michigan and are also part of the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore. Major attractions of the islands include a lighthouse with great views. The southern island has a wonderful museum. You can choose to visit the Francisco Morazan shipwreck or ride in a wagon to enjoy a breathtaking view of giant cedar Trees. An historical Farm tour winding through historical homesteads of the village is also recommended. You can access both islands via the Manitou Island Transit ferry service from Leland. The dunes standing over 400 feet high are in a national park and feature a 35 miles long shore along Lake Michigan. The Manitou Islands are within this park which also has 21 inland lakes. Take a back seat and enjoy Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive This is a scenic route in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. You can consider driving or hire a car for a comfortable drive through the 7.4 (11.9 km) gentle curves of this route and get an opportunity to view the stunning dunes, thick forest, beautiful park land and Lake Michigan shoreline. The route is also suitable for biking and hiking.
